Meaning of ‘Day-off’

Last 2 years I took many classes and (sometimes) work for classes as a T.A during semester. What I did during summer and winter vacation was more diverse. I  read books related to my interest, wrote a paper for graduate students’ paper competition, or took other classes (“Introduction to Classical Music” by Yale university, “theatre and globalization” by Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (LMU) in Coursera).

Summer and winter vacations between semesters were freer, but experiences of some semester seemed to make ‘homework’ for subsequent vacation.

However, after I passed Qualifying exam, known as more difficult than dissertation in my university, finally found I emancipated from all classes, works, and lure of competitions. I don’t have any ‘homework’ for me. Now I can totally concentrate on my dissertation.

(When I studied at Sungkonghoe university, I wrote my dissertation during in third and fourth semesters, now I realize there are cultural differences between universities or majors.)

I am in the midst of vacation.
